Which FPS Engine to use?

I am planning to model an office building like structure in a first person shooter engine. Do you guys have any suggestions on which engine would be best? Would like it to look realistic, but also be fun to deathmatch in. Have been thinking about Half Life (Would Blue Shift high def pack make any difference in user created maps?), UT, Quake III, Tribes 2, Lithtech (NOLF). Any other suggestions? Thanks.

How good are you at making maps? Have you ever used a map making tool for any of those engines? Making a map isn't cake, but with UT, the built-in map editor is quite powerful and relatively easy to use. I had a heck of a time with Worldcraft (quake, HL maps), but UnrealEdit was easier for me.

As far as graphics go, its all about the textures you make with the map. If you can find some nice textures, you can definitely make the maps look more realistic. If you want a set of default textures made to look realistic, the HL ones do a decent job (look at mods like FLF, DOD, CS, etc), but you can't use UnrealEdit.

Hmmmm..."model an office building w/FPS engine" sounds to me like "I hate my job and coworkers and would like to create a game in which I can virtually blow them all away". How therapeutic 😀 You could call it "Downsize THIS Beee-otch!"

FWIW- I'd go with the UT engine/mapping widgit. Takes a while to get the hang of, but I think looks the best ambience-wise.

lol Fausto1...no comment... 😀

I've done basic maps in Half Life, Q3, and UT, but this is my first larger project. So I guess UT would be the best and easiest? Are the better textures in Half Life really that important, could I just get them online? Finally, how are Quake III and Serious Sam? Thanks

Not Tribes 2 heh don't think you could make a very good one in that. It is good for outdoors though. I actually don't like the UT editor. I haven't used NOLF. I think Half-life would be pretty easy with Worldcraft. I've done some decent buildings in that before. Maybe Q3?

I would say UT, based on my experience with that editor....seeing as I'm coming to the LAN you're gonna use it at, i guess i'll just have to make a better one b4 u make yours ;-)
