I plain on formating my H/D. I'm currently backing up all my data. Also my address book and inbox messages. But I cant remember which files I need to backup for my mail in Outlook Express. I thought it was a pab and pst file. But the only file I see is the PST file? Is this the only one I need for all. I dont think so though?

Thanks,
Buck

Look in the windows folder under WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{bunchonumbers here}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. ALl the files in there. The newsgroup ones I would just delete they enver seem to work when restored.

As Grey said, unless you are using Windows NT/2000. Just search for *.DBX files if you are having trouble finding them.

Your address book will be a .wab file in
WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{bunchonumbers here}\Microsoft\Address Book

If you are backing up to CD-Rom, when you are ready to restore, put those two folders back on your hard drive in a temp folder and make sure to change the file attributes from read-only, if they are so designated, then import them.

If they are read-only you will get error messages and the import will fail.

Easier, Goto Tools>>Options, then the Maintenance Tab, now, click the "Store Folder" about 2/3 the way down, and if you want just change the location to a Save Folder, or on another Drive, this is also a handy way to get it back after you've re-installed...
just point to the folder in which the saved Emails are and tell it to use the existing Database...

Different question, but since there are already OE users reading this...

Have any of you have any problems with OE and Hotmail the past week or more? Mine haven't been working worth a damn - two different copies on two different machines, same thing (checks mail, but then won't let me read messages, or if it does, won't let me delete, on and on). Only thing that's the same is A) Hotmail B) OE C) ISP.

Called my ISP, they claim they haven't changed anything. Checking my mail on the hotmail web pages works fine, but then I could get webpage mail from hundreds of different places, OE is the reason I use hotmail.

Yes, double checked all my passwords, they're correct. Remember, problem cropped up on two seperate machines at the same time. No virii either.

Thanks

Yes, I have had this problem for Weeks at a time.. it has to do with MS's server maintenance or something, Just grin and bare it for a few, don't play with your settings that you know worked before, more of a chance you'll make a mistake with one and not realize it...
