which faster?

There shouldn't be any diffence at all.. nither drive will use enough bandwith to flood the lower SATA standard..
brand preferance mostly.. and I dont have one.

Almost certainly the WD drive will be faster (it's got faster seeks and lower latencies etc. as well as the background history that says WD drives of the same generation always perform better than seagates), but as (the other) Bob says you wouldn't notice the difference in performance without a benchmarking tool.

It's an 80Gig HD, it's not going to be that fast i'm afraid. I'd just get the seagate for the warranty and be happy.

Yes, Seagate drives are usually quieter, while WD drives are a bit faster. However, you should try to get a larger drive. Those drives are about $0.75 per GB, while the Western Digital WD2500KS 250GB drive with 16MB cache is about $0.35 per GB. That's a lot cheaper, and the 250GB is faster too.

try and get a 16mb buffer drive. I have used them and stuff seems to load faster.

A lot of people here seem to dislike Maxtor. I have had no probs, but the WD is supposed to be good.
