Which fan?

Been debating all night so any feedback welcome. I plan on using 2 of them in push pull on my current Xigatek 1283. If I like the fans I will get another set for the front 2 120mm fan slots on my Lian Li 351B case. The stock ones barely push any air.

Scythe SY1225SL12SH "Slipstream"

Yate Loon fans.

But for $4 more total (Jabs shipping is expensive $8 for 2) I can get the Scythe from the egg.

Goals: not super loud at 3 feet away. But pushes more air the Xigatek stock ~56 CFM fan

a couple of things...

there is more than one version of the scythe slipstreams. they are categorized by rpm. i can tell you straight up that the one you linked to is going to drive you nuts with the amount of noise that it will generate.

i've used yate loons and they seem to be pretty awesome bang-for-the-buck fans. I would pick yates over slipstreams, especially at the price difference.

Forgot to say I will have them hooked up to a Vantec fan control. So both fans when not gaming will be turned down. The yates cables look cheaper made but I know alot rave about them. The Yate are cheaper for the fans but total shipped is about $15. Newegg has free shipping on the 2 Scythe getting the 1900 RPM ones on purpose. Total $18 shipped. 3 dollars more for higher CFM fans with slightly better cables.

I currently own some Yate Loon 1350 rpm fans and hate them. They make little ticking noises no matter what speed they're spinning at. They were really cheap ($3.99 each), and it shows. They're currently collecting dust. Other people seem to like them, but I'm pretty sensitive about fan noise so I wouldn't use them.

I also own some 1900rpm Slipstreams and I like them a lot. I use two as intake fans in my Lian Li PC-V351 *with a fan controller so that they can be turned down*. They are REALLY LOUD at full blast but they undervolt well enough that I can use them in my HTPC and never hear them.

The Slipstreams, however, do not have a good reputation as heatsink fans. For that you'd want Scythe S-Flex or (especially) Gentle Typhoon (the 1850 rpm model moves quite a bit of air at high pressure and it's quiet). These are both a bit more expensive and the GTs are hard to find, but their superior static pressure make them work a lot better on a heatsink.

THanks for the feedback. Will get the Slips for the front of the case. And some GT when/if newegg ever gets some in stock.

slips suck for sinks.

Kaze Juno < Kaze Slip < Kaze S-Flex < Gentle Typhoon < Ultra Kaze.

S-Flex at the very least for sinks.

GTs are going to be about late April from what I was hearing. Unless there was a huge shipment before the earthquake in Japan or a warehouse that has them stocked.

I think newegg was showing eta of 4/4 on some of them.

I was bored today so I've been surfing the web most of the day. Was kinda looking around for a couple of the GT's and seems like everybody is out of them. Well at least on the most beaten path's anyways!

I found a little hoard of GT's. Wound up finding this site thru amazon or was it buy.com anyways it was one of the sellers on one of those sites. I never have ordered anything from them but the reviews did seem good when I read them.

Price wise I guess not much diff than newegg's but they do look to have stock at least!
