I'm looking for the most reliable and durable, it is to be used to back up everything. Are any known to be more relaible? Thanks

Sorry for the links from Atic.ca not giving much information themselves as the company sites would, but I've been happy with Atic before.

Why? Good Drive, Good Price, Good Warranty.

Buy and internal hdd and an external enclosure. Leave a side off of the enclosure to allow your hdd to run more cool.

I recently bought the 500 gig version of that Maxtor One Touch III for $119 locally at an Office Depot.
It is built with a sata 7200rpm drive with 16mb cache. My original intention when I found it for that price was to rob the drive out of it and use it as an internal drive and put a smaller capacity drive in the enclosure, but I have left it alone for now.

According to their web site, the Maxtor One Touch IV uses a pata 133 drive, which seems odd.

Many people prefer the Seagate drives from Seagate/Maxtor (same company), but with the same warranty, the Maxtor enclosure seems nicer. It has an internal fan that is damn near silent when it runs and is a really nicely made enclosure.

When it comes to external HD enclosures, conventional wisdom is 'Buy the one with the longest warranty'.

Here's a link to a whitepaper that shows some of the features of how the One Touch III is built. It's mostly marketing hype, but they do give a glimpse of whats inside and how the enclosure is put together : http://www.maxtorsolutions.com...uch_iii_whitepaper.pdf
