Which ethernet cards work well with Router?

Hi,

I have a 3com home ethernet gateway. Basically it is a twin of the SMC and Asante routers.
My problem is that I have slow performance in transfering files internally between two computers.
One computer has an Intel/DEC 21140 fast ethernet adapter and the other one has a NetGear FA311 fast ethernet adapter.
Speed from the 21140 to the FA311 is about 70 Mbps, which is good, but speed the other way is only 1.3 Mbps. If I set the FA311
manually to 10-BaseT then I can get speeds of 9.7 Mbps each way. I used to have an AMD based 10 Mbps card in place of the FA311
but there performance was even worse (about 0.1 Mbps, so I got the new ethernet card). Right now I have the FA311 set to 10 Mbps mode
since at least it gives fairly good and equal performance each way. What I wonder is which card is the problem one that if I replace will give
me 70+ Mbps speeds both ways. Anyone out there with either the 3com, SMC, or Asante routers have a set of cards that work well together? If so, can
you post your speeds and which chipsets your ethernet cards use.

Thanks.

Check the duplex of your connection at both ends. If you mix full and half duplex you will get this sort of network trashing performance. If that if fine change your cables.

Yeah, I though about all those before and tried all the combinations of new cables and speed settings.
What I want to run at is 100BaseTx with full duplex, but that causes that horrible asymmetric performance.
So right now I have it set to 10BaseT with fulll duplex and can get about 9.8 Mbps each way, so I am currently living with that situation. Going to go buy some network cards so that all the ones in my network are the same. I currently run three different brands in my network, so maybe there is some incompatibility between them, especially since one is the FA311 which has been know to be troublesome.
