I just built my computer and installed a DVD+/-RW. However, I can't get Windows Media Player to play my DVDs. I downloaded some trial software online, but that only will play 8 minutes at a time.

What do you people use to just play DVDs?

For recording, I'm going to purchase Nero 6, as this poster mentioned.

By the way, if I download the free trial on Nero's website:

1. Will that allow me to watch DVDs?
2. Can I uninstall the software and then use the Nero 6 OEM copy that I will soon purchase?

Thank you.

PowerDVD, WinDVD, Ati DVD Player, something that comes with a DVD decoder. THat's what you pay for when you buy DVD software, the license for it to be able to play back DVDs.

VLC from videolan.org Excellent player and free to boot.

Nero won't allow you to watch DVDs and of course you can uninstall it :)

Do you have a tuner? Just recently, I discovered that if I used Intervideo's WinDVR to tune in channels and didn't install Intervideo's WinDVD ...instead I used PowerDVD, that, I couldn't play MPEGS in WMP or RealPlayer (I could however, play them in PowerDVD). Until, I installed Intervideo's WinDVD Platinum 5, they wouldn't play in WMP and Realplayer. So, on this box, I uninstalled PowerDVD ...when in fact once I had installed Intervideo WinDVD Platinum, I could subsequently uninstall it and be okay.
