Quick question guys... I was going to buy either a Lite-On or Pioneer 16x DVD-rom drive and just wondering about the noise levels. I hear Pioneers can be very loud but how about the Lite-On drive?

That's what i heard too. I did some heavy research back when i was buying my DVD-rom, and i choose the Toshiba 16x40x over the Pioneer. This thing is whisper quiet.

Not true...the Liteon 16/48 is faster at ripping EVERYTHING than the Pioneer, look here. I have the Liteon drive and have heard the Pioneer drive and I would say that the Pioneer is ever so slightly louder.

even cds? with the same amount of accuracy? who makes the drive?

as for slot.. once u get it .. its hard to do without:) get a comp desk with a door on the comp bay area... that or a comp case with a door. that ussually muffles anything. i don't have that but i don't notice it while watching dvds.. promedia's are too loud:) if ur comp is sitting beside ur monitor or under ur monitor it might be a prob

I just picked up a Sony 16X this past weekend at a computer show. It is very quiet. I am extremely happy with it. Only paid $67 for it, too:)
