Which DVD burner?

Lite On 812S or NEC ND-2500A

This will mainly be used for DVD burning since I have other optical drives. Which would be best.

I've read many people say avoid Lite On DVD burners.

I've only heard good things about the NEC 2500A.

I have a lite-on 811s and it works fine. I've only burned around 25 DVDs so I can't say how durable it is....but I do burn regular CD-Rs with it so we'll see how good the drive is. You should concentrate on what media brand and what drive works best together....instead of choosing between two brand of burners....I've heard bad things about all the models that are out these days.....

What exactly is wrong with the LiteOn 812S? I was gonna get it but couldn't find it so I went with the NEC ND-2500A. The LiteOn does read/write the various formats faster doesn't it?

I have Pioneer 107 and suggest it. Hoping it will be able to burn on dual layers someday..... 😉

including Benq DW800A...? 400+ and 6 coasters....ymmv 🙂

Call me crazy but I like the MSI DR8A (i think that's the model)

8x +R, 4x -R and +RW, 2x -RW

likes cheap media, only burned one coaster and that was my own fault. It also comes with HD-BURN!

Im personally gonna wait for the dual-layer lightscribe burners. Lightscribe is gonna be awesome.

I have a Lite-On 411s from last Thanksgiving and have never had a problem. i don't think I've burned a single bad disc yet. I love it. Only paid what? $80 or so with the rebates and stuff?

If you want the best go for the Plextor 708A. Best review out there. I have burnt almost every brand of DVD and not made one coaster yet.

There's nothing wrong with the liteon burners. I haven't made one coaster yet and I've gone through a few spindles.
Liteon rocks.

That is certainly good to know. there are many here wondering about the new 812s. But I haven't seen anyone backup statements about 'stay away from liteon DVD burners'.

I had a 812 sitting in my cart at
ExcaliburPC, until I read this thread. I'll wait a few more days then make a decision. I'd certainly like that liton bundle there:
Bulk with software 😀VD X-Copy,Power DVD,Sonic MyDVD
$98

I've burned about 200 discs also with my Benq and got 2 coasters. 1 in 100 isn't too bad.
