I want to try overclocking a duron to ghz+ so I was wondering which one would get me the closest to it for the best price. I was thinking maybe the 700. Which one seems to be the best?

I've read of some who hit 1GHz with a 600 Duron. The best I could get with one I bought last month was 900MHz. Yesterday I sold the 600 Duron and bought a 700. The latter runs stable at 1GHz. I had it at 1.05GHz for 15 minutes this morning before it crashed.

In theory any Duron could run at 1 GHz. It all depends on the luck of the draw when overclocking. I bought a Duron 600 thinking it would do 900 like almost every other Duron out there but, as you can see in my sig, it's only running at 800 and wont go any higher.

Still, I would buy a faster one like the 700 when trying to overclock to speeds like 1 GHz. Just because it's guaranteed to run at a higher speed might indicate a better yield. But in the end it really comes down to weather or not you bought a good one or not. :)

The Durons from 600 to 800 MHz use identical core voltage, leading many to believe that they are essentially the same chip, relabled. That means that you probably have just as good a chance at hitting 1 GHz with a recently manufactured Duron 600 as with a Duron 800. Just make sure you are getting a recent week Duron 600.

Also, 1 GHz is a bit high to aim for. Yes, many chips have hit this speed, but it's not at all a sure thing.

you should use MY 600 :)

Most people agree that the core in the 600-700 is the same and 750-800 have a slightly higher grade core improving your chances...
