which drive should I install WinXP on?

Pick the fastest one since SATA doesn't automatically mean it's a faster drive.
 
more than likely the SATA due to 7200RPM. if the IDE drives are also 7200RPM, then it will be the same as the SATA drive.

oh yeah, SATA uses thinner cables so there's another reason to go with SATA.
 
Inline, SATA cables being thinner has nothing to do with putting XP on that drive. Shivin, which ever drive is the newest, fastest, has lowest seek times, more RPMs, etc, put that as primary system drive. Make the boot, system partition smaller then the whole drive also, something like 20-40GB depending on how many games you will install. Then format the rest as NTFS or FAT32.

thinner cables = better airflow and cleaner case.

EDIT: i didn't read his post clearly. i thought he wanted to choose out of the 3 drives to put in the case. 😛
