I have 2 computers ive decided i can use for a good cause. This one, a Athlon 1.2ghz (at night) and a 300mhz K6-2 (24 hours a day). There seems to be alot of good projects to join (after lookin at the sticky/locked thread up top), which one do you all reccomend for me??

Yay Aphex, very good decision! :D As for what project....depends on what you want to put your idle cycles to work at.....work for better encrpytions, look for alien signals...analyze the gene patterns.....Personally i'm going Seti@Home and ECCp-109... The G@H and F@H are pretty new so i don't know much about them. Either way you choose to go, it's for the TeAm! GL

Even though i am a big Seti fan, i wouldnt use the AMD K6 for seti, the processors FPU is to weak, so set it at any of the other project instead.
The OGR is (i think) the best for K6-x, but Eccp can use it pretty good also.. At least my K6-2 runs Eccp and does a pretty good job :)

The Athlon Thunderbird will do good at any project you choose, so like Lithium381 said, pick after taste :)

/edit - better read the entire post first
Welcome to the best TeAm around :)

I have a few k6's running seti, and they are slow. about 1 per 30 hrs or so.

I've done a few of the projects, and can really say that any part of the TeAm would love the help....... :D

Although I am a Team Anandtech Folding@Home participant, I will recommend that you run ECCp-109 on at least one of those systems, because our ECCp-109 team is dropping badly in the team rankings right now. Also, I think our Genome@Home (sp?) team is also in need of much help right now, but I'm not sure how bad the situation is there, since I don't follow those statistics a lot.

Thanks for the great responces...

I used to be a member of Seti awhile back on my old PIII 500, but it used to be a pain to get datasets to download... Is that still an issue with seti??

To be perfectly honest, yes...it can be at times. However, you can alleviate that by using a caching program like SETI Driver or d/ling your w/u's from one of the public queues from the sticky thread.

as mentioned above...it's pretty bad if you try to get them directly from Berkley....but i just set mine up to run through a public queue and that works great! Currently i'm running Seti@Home, and i get around 7hrs per unit, because i'm also running eccp-109...which does about 700k iterations/sec.....this is on an Athlon XP1700+ on Win98se. TA-ECCp-109 dropped 5 rankings in the past few months, and it looks like at least one more team was catching up(last i saw) so that would really appreciate the help. You could probably run both projects like me and my brother(he's on an Athlon 1.2).

aphexII, knock yourself out.

The science and life-sciences projects are the ones with potentially the most benefit to mankind. In all honesty go with whatever flicks your switch however if you want to try and keep team in high places in certain efforts, folding@home, seti, genome@home, and eccp are lacking power.

Yea, thats what im leaning towards right now. As much as i would love to help search for Life elsewhere, i think my computer time would be best spend looking for cures for different diseases and whatnot.

Thanks guys...

Genone @ home could use your help. Last week I was the most productive member which is pretty sad, becuase I only have a hand full of computers. Right now we have something like 50 members with only 11 active. Whatever you choose to run, welcome to the team! :)
