Which Digicam???

I'm looking to buy a small digicam that I can take around to take snap shots of outings and stuff. I've been shopping at best buy and frys and I've narrowed the choices down to the Canon S330, Canon S200, or Minolta DiMage X. Each of them have small flaws though. The Canon S330 is a little bulky but has everything I'm looking for, The S200 only has 2x Optical zoom, and The DiMage X uses MMC/SD cards which are really expensive. Can anyone recommend another crazy small camera with Optical Zoom?

Errr... I know this is going to be a bit of a crapshoot, but Target is putting a ton of their Digicams on clearance right now. Off the top of my head I can't remember what's on clearance (I haven't been to work since last Sat) but you should go down and at least look. If you do happen to buy one you can put it on a Target Card and get 10% off (which is a damn nice deal if you pay the CC off at the end of the month) -- and if you happen to buy the display you get another 10% off.

I do remember we had a few cannon's on clearance, but YMMV. There was an Olympus on clearance for right around $500 plus 10% + 10% off = damn fine deal...

Well, sorry I didn't answer your questions specificly, but maybe you'll find a good deal.

for the size, i would get the s200. it was only 289 shipped from dell a few weeks ago. also, a new canon s230 is coming out which uses the same body but is 3 megapixels. i would wait for that one, canon makes some good cameras. 2x zoom is not that much though if that matters to you. seems to only matter when i'm indoors (lens angle not wide enough)

I have the Digital IXUS 330, which I believe is the european equivalent of your S330. Here's a good review of it.

IMO it's great camera, it's small enough, light enough and feels like a brick you can throw around without fearing it might break (which was important for me..). It's easy to operate with one hand, the controls and menus are logical and easy to use... plus it looks damn nice with the polished metal casing.


Couple of quotes from the conclusion of the review (link) above:

S230 just announced, same size as s200 but is 3 megapixel. Definate must buy I will be trading in my s30 for one.

i've played around with all of the canon powershot digital elph series. If you want the S200, I'd suggest looking for the S110. Better imaging lens in the camera. They lowered the quality of the components in the S200 IMO so that they can sell better.

S230 sounds really good too. If you have time, I'd hold out. As with anything tech related, it only gets cheaper as time goes by.

I am interested in that S230 because its so small yet so powerful, but I'm hoping they'll release a 3x Optical zoom version of that camera. I know its not much of a difference but i'll probably end up kicking myself if I go with 2x zoom. I'll wait and see what canon has up their sleeve since fall is here and who knows what they've got lined up.
