OK looking to go with the new Asus P4S533 mb and P4 1.6A soon and want to know what you all think would be the best choice for RAM. I am looking at pc2700 ddr 512mb sticks of the following:
1. Corsair $195 w/ heat spreader
2. Crucial $220
3. Mushkin $170
4. Samsung $160

What so you all think is the best stuff? Any of these or something different. I will be gaming with this system and look to overclock it also. Thanks for the advice.

I would go with the Samsung from here or here with Samsung PCB & Samsung Chips, and it would probably overclock more than all of the other choices.

edit- they are all excellent memory manufacturers though.

I like the Corsair's price and heat spreader. Wish that pc2700 from Crucial was not so expensive. Thanks for the info people. Keep em coming :)

I do like the sound of Crucail. I have not heard a bad word about them. But $111 for 256mb of pc2700 is pretty high I think. If it comes down that will make this much easier choice :)

Crucial is always a good choice, I saw a review of an Epox board & the Crucial PC2100 ram actually overclocked higher then Corsair PC2700 ram,

<< So in this case my Crucial PC2100 could clock further than the Corsair PC2700. At £24 dearer is the Corsair worth it? >>

Link .I should point out overclocking results will be different between brands and even the same brand ram.

Thanks...That Mushkin PC3000 does look awesome. Like that. I have heard that Crucial PC2100 is some great stuff also and is a good price as well. This just keeps getting tougher. Keep em coming please. :)

I'll go for the Samsung because it is cheaper, performs very well and because I haven't heard any bad things about it. The Corsair is an excellent choice too but it is handpicked Samsung memory ith heatspreaders. By the way, do these heatspreaders really make a difference... I don't think so.

I really dont think the heatspreaders are necessary but I do like that Corsair memory with them and the price of it is compareable. I did not know they were hand picked Samsung chips. Thanks

Right now I am leaning towards the Corsair. Anyone know what prices are suppose to do in the next month? I will be buying this system by about the first week of June. Any thoughts if RAM prices will fall again by then? They are going down lately. Thanks

Well, after the 20% discount from the HOT DEALS forum. A 512 mb of pc2100 is under $150 and 2-256mb of pc2700 is $200 what do you people think of these prices and products compared to the Corsair chips?

Go with the Crucial, every stick of DDR (thats about 12 sticks), has been able to run in turbo mode on, meaning the most aggressive mem timings available. One stick of 2100 even made it to 150fsb in turbo mode. It's great stuff.

Herb was inquiring about PC2700. ;)

Samsung original PC2700 should have no problems hitting 200+MHz, at least mine does. With the price/performance ration in mind, it's hard to go wrong with Samsung original.

Here's a good PC2700 roundup.

I would go the cheapest major brand(yes, Samsung for around 140), since faster chips coming out so frequently and there is no solid evidence a brand is better than others.

Thanks for the advice all. Yes Samsung would be the cheapest and if performance is really close on all of these I may just go that route. Thanks again all.
