I was wondering what whould be a good dc client for my pc.
I have 256mb ram, athlon 2000+
I would like to run f@h, but my computer isn't entirely stable(win98), and version 4 starts from the beginning after a crash(3.4 didn't do that :( )
I also don't like the fact it takes 100 mb of ram

so, I want soemthing benificial(no searching for aliens) which doesn't take too much memory.

any reccomendations?

Thanks

(btw, I am already running chessbrain)

Try dpad I just started it on one machine and I can't even tell it is running. The project is new enough you can make a impact with just one machine and the team is on the way up having just took 5th place.

all right! I'll give dpad a go, and see how it performs

edit: I don't want to run that - I really meant something a little more benificial, unless you can prove me wrong ;)

Actually the machine that's being built (costing at least $1.9bn) has several scientific aims. The neutrinos are used for fundamental physics experiments, but the proton beam that is produced at the start (this hits the target rod at the beginning of the simulation you download) is also going to be used in experiments for neutralising radioactive waste by transmuting the radioactive elements into stable ones
Well finding a way to neutralise all the radioactive waste we have on this planet is very benificial in my book.
You can find out more about the problem here

Glad to have you aboard! I don't believe they made the more useful parts of the project clear enough. I know if I had known about the radioactive waste part of the project sooner I would have started running it before now as that really is a big problem we face and most people aren't even aware of it.

another goal of the neutrino technology is the possible transmutation of toxic waste into harmless particles:

oops just realized freewolf copied the same thing i was just about too

Either way, welcome!

Sorry to hear of your troubles with F@H. You can continue to use the F@H 3.25 client if it is more stable for you. (IF you still have a copy of it, cant download it anymore). As for memory usage of F@H, my main machine right now is using only ~26mb, not sure why it went wild like that on you....
I also participate in the DPAD project, new member, and feel its a cool worthwhile cause too.

There always is the command line version of F@H, which isn't a memory hog at all (~21MB on mine right now). Whatever project you choose is probably going to be worthwhile, as you're taking the time to research it. Happy crunching!
