I think it should read like this:

Venice>San Diego>Winchester>Newcastle>Hammer
Newer 90nm technology wins. Smaller cache means less heat.

I think they are all good for about 2.7ghz with the right cooling. But get a San Diego for the newest technology with a 1mb cache.

Actually the San Diego is using Strained Silicon and the Venice isn't I thought so the San Diego's appear to get as good if not better overclock, but I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time LOL.

They are all using SOI (90nm) but only the San Diego and 130nm FX are using Strained Silicon I think

TBH, i kinda forgot about teh San Diegos for a bit there, since here in Canaduh, who knows how long we'll have to wait before we get them.

So here's my revised opinion:

Venice for the budget OCer
San Diego for the highest (but also alot more expensive)

Edit: Holy shiat, i just noticed NCIX has the San Diegos in stock! 🙂

A San Diego 3700+ typically tops out at 2.8-2.9ghz.

sigh, sadly i bought a winchester a few weeks before the Venice was released

LOL, what's there to sigh about, I am very happy with my $146 Winie 3000+ doing 2.5Ghz on a POS mobo like the ABIT AV8 (ViaPro), if i had a NF3/4 mobo i bet i could get 2.65 gig out of it!!!!!

i guess mine has a limitation on RAM (to keep it at cas2)
but week 0502 isn't about the best batch of processors for winnies
still able to come close to 2.4Ghz
and thats about it.

i pushed my san diego to 2.6 it idles at 103 degrees and under prime it goes 108-110 so I know I can push it higher but trying to get memmory to ddr 400 cause you cant rase the fsb unless you lower your ram and loosin up timming overclocking is a bicth cause if the guy next to you has the same pc,his setting wont even be good and stable for you theres alot of stuff you have to do spend like 24 hours trying to tweak it till you find the best setting, you might think cause his chip pusshes 2.6 yours might not so be carefull

Don't let your ram hold you back, Lossen your timings or use a higher ram divider and push your CPU to its max stable speed. You are are better off with a extra 75Mhz or higher cpu speed then those tight timings, yes A64 likes tight timings better then ram bandwidth, but it likes pure CPU speed even more!!!!!

As said before, San Diego and Venice are your best bets. Winchesters dont make too much sense anymore, when you can get an improved memory controller, lower voltage and better (although not by too much) overclocking, for a matter of a few dollars.

EDIT: No idea on weeks, but all steppings seem to be consistent, at least for now.
