ok i have an amd xp 2100+ tbred '"b", but i want to get a barton 2500+.

which one is better for over clocking?

do i need water cooling for the barton?

keep your tbred. most likely its a "AIUHB" correct? these are nice.

also, there is a rumor that the 3rd letter from the 4 letter grouping, lower the letter the better.

ie)WPIW vs WPMW.. WPIW is better, while WPAW is the best. not sure bout this though.

i would upgrade, the gain in performance if any will be unnoticable and no, you dont need water for the barton. they only run a few C hotter than tbred if that

Doesn't make sense. Upgrade to an unnoticeable performance gain?

The 2500+ is faster overall, by mhz, and the extra cache, how high is your 2100+ overclocked now? Both of mine got about 2.2ghz out of them.

They are better than tbreds. But would you consider the money well spent if they are both so fast anyway, you wouldn't notice a difference?

im entering this contest with some of my friends so every mark counts im looking for which one of these has the best performance.

Alrighty, if you put it that way.

How high is your 2100+ overclocked now? If its at 2.4ghz or higher, I wouldn't worry about a new CPU. Most 2500+s max out at about 2.2ghz or 2.3ghz.

ok then i guess im staying with my 2100+ it goes 2.5 on water cooling @ 1.8 volts i might be able to get it higer.

Well, sorry, 2.2 to 2.3ghz on air is max for Bartons. Not sure abut the water cooling.

Seems to me your 2100+ is fine, and I wouldn't worry about the CPU. The money can be best spent towards faster memory, a videocard, or a better chipset.

Care to post the rest of your specs?

my new setup would be
2100+
AN7(new abit mobo Nforce2)
2x 256 OCZ 4000 memory
Leadtek Geforce4 Ti 4200 @ 320/560
replacing the chipset cooler with a vantec copper
52x/24x/40x lite-on burner
16x/40x dvd rom
anything else you want to know?

You would definatly want to get a new videocard. Thats your main bottleneck at the moment.

Cool, I didn't know about the AN7. Specs very similar to the NF7-S, just with some "iGuru" processor.
