Which cpu for a server/htpc

I am gonna make a linux server which will run as htpc at the same time. But I am not sure which cpu to get now. I would think that the more cores the better when we are talking server, but its at the cost of 1Gz.

The 6000+ is best at idle with around 10.5w where the 8450 uses 22.2w in idle. But at full load its the oppesite, 8450 uses 74.4w where the 6000+ uses 98w.

But I would think the server would run idle most of the time as I am just going to play with it (Gotta learn linux at some point) and dont have any demanding tasts for it in mind yet.

When we look at performance then the 6000+ looks to be the winner, but multitasking is not taken into consideration in this benchmark.

So what do you think? I most thinking of getting the 8450 atm, but not sure if its the right choise :S

I would think going to the linux distro site for your linux server software would give you the answers you need but what distro you planning to use?
