Which CPU fan will do me better?

Ok, I've got a Swiftech MCX462 Retail HSF (it comes in with a Delta 80mm 48.5 dba fan which is way too noisy for me). I bought this HSF when they first retailed in stores with hopes of overclocking my PC but I quit that game some time ago. I decided to change the fans to something that will keep my CPU (AMD T-Bird 1.33GHz) nice and cool and dbas low. Currently the Delta fan can keep my CPU at or around 35*C (idle) and (41*C @ full load). Stats taken from Motherboard Monitor.

I was looking at the Panaflo 80mm "LOW" 24.cfm 21dba (4pin) Fan and at the Sunon 80mm 30cfm (4pin) Cooling Fan. Could anyone tell me which of these would perform better? I really need low dba and I don't need a lawnmower as my Delta. Any suggestiions are greatly appreciated 🙂.

Thanks;

panaflow will be fine. ur really in the wrong place for low dba or silent hsfs if ur running athlon. but hey its all good. ja mata

Guys, FWIW I have that YS Tech fan in the front of my Enlight 7237 case. You can dial it down to virtually silent all the way up to pI[near Delta[/i] force. Even at full speed it doesn't approach the Delta noise though. The wiring to the dial is long enough for me to mount it out the back of my case, via a punchout, so off the cpu heat sink you should be able to mount the dial pretty much anywhere you want.

🙂Right on Jeff , your right the YS has a 26" lead on the speed dial , I'm goint to mount mine in the front.

The Thermaltake Volcano7+ has a switch which allows you to set the fan speed.

I have a Volcano 6CU which does the job admirably but is a bit loud.

Thanks for asking this question, VFAA. I've traced the noisemakers in my system to the CPU and Powersupply fans, and I was wondering what fan I could use (along with a Thermalright AX-7) on a Palomino 1.4GHz chip. Thanks to everyone else for the suggestions.

Nate

I run a Sunon on my Alpha PAL6045 and it's cooling an early version (ie hot, brick of a cpu) 1.2GHz T-Bird Athlon. I've got the bus OCd to 142MHz and it still idles at 37C, so the Sunon will definately do the job.

It's really not that loud of a fan either. The damn fan on my power supply is 42db and totally drowns out the Sunon. How loud is your PS fan anyway? Either fan (Sunon or Panaflow) probably won't be that noticably different in the noise they produce if any of your other fans are 30db+.

That's the thing though... I also have a Lian-Li PC68 case with 3 80mm fans inside... The fans inside the case produce 20cfm each but I don't know about dba. But I'm guessing they are no more than 28dba (?) or even less. But they don't bother me. I can't hear my PSU fan as its noise kind of blends in with the softy of the 3 case fans. No biggie. Delta on my HS is a screaming jet hehe.

I ordered that Y.S. Tech fan online yesterday but in mean time I went down to my local BigFootComuters.com store and picked up this fan. This Vantec fan delivers! The only thing I hear in my Lian-Li case are the case fans 🙂.

I have three of those Vantec fans in my PC and they are Quiet indeed.Push some good air too.Lifetime Warranty.Highly recommended

I just would like to return and say that I got another fan. I got a Thermaltake 80mm, 2900 rpm, 37 CFM and 30 dB(A)... this one does pretty good... Gives twice the performance of the Vantec fan (but that's because the Vantec is more of a typical case fan). Temperatures stay around 40*C @ idle... 43*C - 44*C @ full load. So Thermaltake can also do the job. I haven't tried Panaflo nor Sunon since they were sold out and I didn't feel like ordering and waiting for god knows how long.
