Which CPU Cooler HSF for AthlonXP1800

Are there any good HSF combos good for a Socket A AthlonXP 1800?

I'm thinking about a ThermalRight AX-7 Cooler With Delta 80cfm fan.

How much sound it makes doesn't matter to me.

Any suggestions?

Are you planning on overclocking? The AX-7 is a nice setup, but I do not like the delta fans. If you decide to go with the AX-7 you may want to replace the delta with a sunon fan.

I ask if you are going to overclock because if you arent then the AX-7 is overkill. If you are not going to overclock, the retail HSF is adequate.

Sorry for not making my statement Clearer.
I plan to overclock my XP.

I can get the HS by itself, and get a different fan, but thats another purchase. I really don't mind though, as long as i get the best performance. Is there anything wrong with a delta fan?

Also i'm curious to which type of thermal Compound i should use.

Thanks again!

Delta fans are great at cooling . IF you can stand the lawnmower-loud noise. Otherwise look for an 80mm fan under 40 dba. I'm using a thermaltake fan now rated at 30dba and 37cfm and it cools eggselent and works fine with oc'ing. And it's quiet.

As for thermal compounds I suggest either arctic silver II, III or alumina. All are real close as far as performance. Alumina is far easier to clean up afterwards. That isn't important unless you change heatsinks as often as I do.

How does a ThermalTake Volcano 7 Plus sound?

This comes with the switch for the fan that i can change how fast/loud i want the fan to be.

High -- 6000rpm@47 dba
Medium -- 4800rpm@35 dba
Low -- 3000rpm@24 dba

Same price as the first i mentioned.

Thanks once again!

The V7+ is an excellent heatsink but I think they used the wrong fan with it. It's only quiet on low setting. On medium it it's still too loud for me with that darned annoying high pitched sound. That 35dba ain't right. On high get ready to rumble.

But at least you can use the control to make it higher when needed and when having your speakers blasting. Even then you can still hear that fan. 😀 It still cools well even on the low setting though.

I have the hhc-001 that I got from newegg. I can't remember the fan speed or dba rating. However, I can tell you that it does a great job of cooling. I'd reccomend it.

Yea I got that one, it's great 🙂

Fan speed is 6800 to 7000 rpm's

I forget the dba also, it's not too bad though
