well, how much would some used 750/760/860 cost? since he already have the p55 board...
and really? FX 4300 is not much different than the overclocked i3... and it would cost 2x+ considering it's only 55 and it would need a motherboard...

Missed the part where he had a motherboard already.

.....

something else socket 1156/1155 in this budget range new or used.
If you're going to go with 1155 platform which I recommend since you can upgrade to an ivy later, look for a used sandy i3 which has ht instead of a 2 core pentium.

TigerDirect has had 2 separate sales where the FX-6300 OEM was $90, I'd say go for that. You get 6 cores, and fully unlocked overclocking to close the single thread gap. Most 6300's can hit 4.4-4.6 ghz on modest air cooling. The process must have matured because anectodally it seems the later Piledrivers overclock with better temperatures than they did at initial release

thanks for the education on hyperthreading for 2 core.

as for amd route. that would mean a new motherboard and new cpu. for roughly the same money - might as well buy a better intel cpu instead, afterall Z77 and P55 mb already on hand.

thanks for all the inputs.

The OP says he has Intel mobos, hence the limitation. Personally I would try to find a deal on a newer i3 like a 3220.

EDIT: Remind me to always quote.

good eyes.

sadly some members just read what they want to read - completely missing the whole point.

Z77 and P55 mobo already on hand from prior build.

What happened to your cpu from your Z77 prior build? Some people might've gotten confused and think that your are getting a new Z77 mb.

thanks for that nice find. try to buy it. look like a site error. nothing show up in cart and unable to check out.

bononos
prior cpu was a i7-3770k. had to buy a new Z77+PLX motherboard when upgrading from 680sli to 680trisli. so this Z77 motherboard is available.
