Volvo, Saab, and Koenigsegg!

Only one of those three fits into the categories 😛

Volvo Group is one of the worlds´ largest producer of heavy trucks.
http://www.volvo.com/trucks/global/en-gb/

Saab-Scania trucks
http://www.scania.com/

So if we're talking REAL trucks, then Saab and Volvo both fir there, they also make non-sports cars.
And obviously Koenigsegg fit into sportscars.

Despite the sarcasm in your post, it is valid to suggest Sweden and they totally PWN all 3 categories.

let me see a $65k car that performs like a Z06

umm, the poll is not asking for the best bang for the buck. its for the best car.

German cars FTW.

Especially because they invented the sports sedan... there is no other car you need. A car that can seat 5, with 4 doors, and can beat many "sports cars." Is where it is at.

Except that they're loaded with gremlins and require a phd is engineering to use their controls.

What this guy picked.

Edit: Actually the Toyota has 1 really good pickup, but I still like US pickups/trucks the best.

Toyota has a decent pick up, but they lack a large range like the other companies (I.e. they don't really have a heavy duty truck).

even if you divide the cars into categories... how do you define the "best" car? performance? it's germany. reliability? it's japan. value? it's korea. design? italty hands down. heritage? america.

overall i think it's germany for cars. their designs are good in general (carrera GT, M3 etc), performance-wise, they are on par with italy. their reliability has dropped in recent years but in general pretty good (old merc's, VW's and bmw's that are made in germany are good). they are ok for the money (golf's and jetta's are competitive with the japanese offerings), and they do have a long history (who doesn't know the gull wings?)

as for commercial trucks, mercedes makes kickass diesel's. the G class can be used for military-spec, and armored sedans like the 7-series and the S-class are famous as well.

as for racing tracks... they have the longest one in the world, and their highways...? autobahn?

germany FTW.

Have you ever driven one, or owned one with iDrive?

No, I thought not, you just go by what magazines say.

It's not hard once you use it for a while.

Volvo and Saab both make sports sedans made to rival the BMW M3.

except nothing comes even close, except maybe the audi S4 (germany) and the ultra expensive japanese's like the skyline GTR or NSX (japan).

The Audi RS4 will.. (or does)

Lada FTW.

Has anyone seen the infamous video where they used a rubber mallot (i.e. hammer) in the assembly line to make the passenger door fit/close.

Now that's what I call quality engineering!

The S60R comes pretty close. As close as the S4. And since it's turbo, a few mods can get it past an E46 M3. Of course, the hammerblow E90 M3 is on it's way to put the world on notice, yet again.

Oh, undeniably. I see many, many Volvo/Scania trucks on my travels, but they're not talking about truck trucks. They're talking pickups.

Couple of things.
For a start, a Lotus Exige will rape pretty much anything on handling alone.
Secondly, we're not looking at value for money.

As far as five minutes of checking go, Volvo make a 300bhp S60, which sounds okay but not only is it 30-40bhp (depending on country spec of M3) short of the M3, but most likely lacks a large amount of the M3 refinenment. Oh, and it's a Volvo.
Saab make a 260bhp 95, and even with a theoretical 350bhp lump, it's still a Saab.

I hear what you're saying, but the quality of BMW interiors and the legendary BMW handling just walks all over Volvo and Saab. Plus V&S don't have the BMW pedigree.

i vote britain for the sports cars.

i know most of our motor industry is gone, jag and aston are under fords umbrella, rolls and bently are off with the germans, and proton own lotus.

but despite that i think we make the best sports cars. i mean look at lotus, proton my own it, but have little say in what they do, they produce some insanely good cars

TVR, russian owned yes, but still designed an built by the brits in blackpool....awesome cars

then theres Jensen, Morgan, Marcos.....theres alot of small sports car builders, many of which you wont of heard of...even if u live in britain.

i dont know why people have voted italy as best sports car, yeah they make awesome cars, but i would say italy is home to the super car....

volvo and saab make some nice cars to waft about in, Koenigsegg...make what i deem a built to order super car, not a sports car
