No, isn't an airforce a pretty useless asset anyways, when you're talking war with like russia or china with WMD?

WMD isn't something to be used lightly so there was some possibility that regardless of how badly the US or russia was going in a convential war that nukes would never be lit off.

I think China realises their state in the world as well as anyone in this thread does. Who's to say that they don't follow Sun Tzu and have a pretty nice secret Air Force going on? Comparing them to the US Air Force is silly, why would they attack us in the first place? Comparing the russian air force to the chinese air force seems like a better comparison, because if asia theoretically goes into war then that would be the more likely of combatants.

However, most of it is either obsolete or in need of repair.

There are a few reasons why they couldn't have a secret air force:

1. Secret? Two words: 'spy satellite.' I guarantee you that any aircraft that they tried to keep secret would be noticed very quickly by US intelligence.
2. The fact is, the chineese air force's pilots would need to be trained on these aircraft. You can't just jump from a mig-17 to an f-22 and take off into the wild blue yonder, expecting to know how to use all those new avionics correctly.
3. Distribution. If they needed an to use these craft in combat, they would need to be in the hands of the military, at air bases, not just hidden in some secret bunker in the middle of nowhere. They are worse than useless then, because you spent money on them yet don't have them where they need to be on time.

For several reasons:
1.) You can load more munitions onto an aircraft if it doesn't take off with its full fuel load then tanks up once airborne.
2.) CAPS can stay up longer without having to land to refuel as could AWACS or intelligence collection platforms.
3.) Long range attack missions -- if they wanted to take out an Iranian site northeast of Tehran, they don't have the legs for it.

Perhaps they are training on these aircraft, more of a SU-37 and not a F-22. Yes it would be noticed by our "US Spy Satellite", but does US intelligence have to tell the public,, not really.

A war with china mean everything in USA will be more $$$$,, considering most of the stuff has something made in China,, a WAR would stop all that. Nike would be no more.

The Russians on the eastern front were armed with somewhat better equipment than pitchforks. The Germans were more than anything defeated by the weather and their own inadequate logistical planning. The Russian winter and the Nazis failure to provide proper equipment for the winter destroyed the their only opportunity to win in Russia.

The reality is that the US has used it's huge economic power to create incredible technologically advanced and well trained armed forced, that no other country can even hope to come close to at this time.

..... but... (and there's always a "but"), remember that this is all built on economic power, and China is quickly growing as an economic power. In time, if they continue to build economic power, their military power will emerge as well. Good thing for us that will be a long ways off.

Yeah, what is up with all this talk of war with China? If we go to war with China, we would win, but we'll probably be making another Japan out of them.

Some of our air power is so advanced it's disturbing. 747's with frikin lasers that shoot missiles down, helicopters that share data, track and destroy 100 targets by barely peeping over a treeline.

I'd fear us if I were them.

Even our tanks share data now :)
I'm really over fascinated by that new tank they're going to roll out soon. It shoots 8 shells and can program itself so they all land at the target at the same time.

We really outdo ourself in the creative killing department, I must admit.

That project got killed. Too expensive and too heavy. I was referring to the m1 abrams tanks now having a digital console :)
All new M1 abrams are now equipped with amazing new gamecube? techonlogy!

What was the name of that tank that could shoot 8 shells like that?

I'm thinkin' those nukes aren't quite the threat that they once were. They have to fly halfway around the world to get to us...we might be able to get a bead on them.

Oh yeah, I read somewhere (USA Today maybe?) that Isreal actually has an Air Force comparable in every way to our own. If I remember correctly, the article actually said that as combat aircraft, they are actually better than our own. Due to the fact that they have been in a constant state of combat for 30 years and have been extensively field modified.

China's ICBM goes faster than those lasers.

Don't be silly, China put US airforce crew into hostage and Bush can't do $hit.

Where's the all power US Navy? Duh.

US wouldn't even dare to attack, unlike some child with American flag in this thread,

Well being that we SUPPLY them I would hope it would be comparable. Their pilots are good, in the 7 day war I think it was they had the refueling and re-arming down to like 12 minutes or something ridiculous like that.

I hope by secret you mean completely contained underground or under a mountain, otherwise our planes/sattelites would most certainly spot them.
