Ok, I know I just asked a ram question, but i just ran across something i thought was kind of strange....
Why is it that can i buy a 512 stick of CMX512-3200C2 512MB PC3200 for $95 but the cost for CMX512-3200LL 512MB XMS3200 Low Latency SPD is $143?

Does the Low Latency really warrant 50 bucks more? Because if not, I'm going for the 95 bucks for sure
Oh, and do you think ill run into much trouble using two 512 sticks instead of a twinx kit? I've read a lot about this topic, but just want some personal info

I would get the $95. sticks. It will run at the same low latency settings anyways, you just may have to give it a little extra voltage.

The low latency can probably run tighter settings at higher frequencies, although the 3200 should be fine. I'm pretty sure the CMX256-3500C2 and 3200LL are the same chips.

I'm still setting up my P4P800 Deluxe 2.8C system and I bought 512 mb single stick Corsair XMS PC3200LL from newegg.com. The LL wouldn't boot at default voltages and SPD, which actually makes me pretty pissed that I paid $40 extra for this stick. Corsair's forum advises PC3500 for the 865 and 875 series (a 512 mb stick of PC3500 costs about $10 less than the 3200LL), and suggests raising the memory voltage to about 2.75 v if needed to make your PC3200LL run. They've also suggesting running the CAS to RAS delay at 3 rather than straight 2-2-2-6.

I'm playing around with goldmemory from www.goldmemory.cz to test out my lowest latency settings at 2.75 v, so far I can tell you that 2-2-2-6 won't pass GoldMemory at 2.65 v for my stick. UPDATE: 2-2-2-6 with Enhanced Memory Perf. / P4P800's PAT at 2.75 v

I'm thinking about an RMA simply because this memory is advertised to run 400 MHz with 2-2-2-6 and it can't do it...

[EDIT] Wow, been running the memory test at 2.75 v in the bios setting and the heatspreader is pretty toasty (only 20% through)... like a HD without a fan near it sort of toasty.

[UPDATE] 2-2-2-6 with 4 bank got through a full cylce of GoldMemory (after 2.some hours) at 2.75 V with that pseduo-PAT option. I've stopped the GoldMemory to play with it for an hour, then will let GoldMemory run overnight.

[UPDATE] GoldMemory found errors at 2-2-2-6 4 bank 2.75v running overnight. I changed the CAS to RAS to 3 and set the memory to default voltage (2.55) and it now runs a quick GoldMemory test just fine.... will leave it running overnight again.

MBM5 tells me my load temps (running Prime95 for 1 hour) are 35 C for the Case (sensor1), 45 C for the CPU (Sensor2 diode) (stock cooler, healthy dab of AS2, 11/16 Qfan), and a probe stuck to the outside of the ramsink records 44 C. Idle temps report the CPU being lower than the case though, so maybe I need to install the Asus Probe Software.
