quick update to anyone wondering what it's like, well, it's fast

some rough real world numbers, encoding a full length DivX movie to WMV for my zune took ~90 minutes on the 3500m, now takes ~25 mins on the C2Q, and i can unzip a massive (2GB) rar file at the same time with no apparent loss of speed to either process or to the general running of windows - and i haven't even overclocked it yet
 
Question for TLW. Did you have to update the bios before the Q9550 works on that MB? My parts are coming...

there was one available on the asus website but the notes said to use only if you were experiencing problems, so mine is on the version it came from the factory with

will have a look tonight and see which one it is...
