which cooler to replace my stock AMD

scythe scnj-1000 ninja with a 120mm fan blowing owns.

currently i slapped a panaflo l1a on my stock amd cooler till i can decide which new cooler i should drop the coin on. works good and idling at 37C, not to shabby i must say.
 
The Zalman will be heavier and quieter.
The Thermalright will be louder with that fan, but lighter. You should be able to find a 80mm L1A somewhere cheaper than that, or get a Nexus 120mm for noise

If you're overclocking, not as worried about noise, then the ThermalRight + Panaflo M will be the better performer.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with the Kingwin, but is there really a good reason to go for it? For plain air, ThermalRight and Zalman are both going to be excellent quality coolers, with the Thermalright being a bit easier to install.
 
i choose thermalright series
i hate the zalman for the heaviness, size, and built in fan

but do you really need better than stock? I gave my xp-90 for my bro's 3.8 prescott cuz my system seems stable with stock hsf and im at 2.6ghz @ 1.52V and only 40C idle

i thought of that water cooling because the used one from my friend was cheaper than an xp-120 w/ fan

man im still running a alpha heatsink in my xp 2600+ rig. those were the IN thing to get back in that day. doesnt seem like they made any new badass heatsink, seems like they are still making their heatsink the same way as 4-5 years ago.

Yeah, The Alpha heatsinks were the heatsinks to buy for your PC back in the day. I have one cooling a Duron 1.2Ghz and it keeps it below 40C. Although their A64 heatsink is soo big, it doesn't fit on alot of boards since it hits capacitors and such.
 
Why not just go for the XP-90. It performs almost the same as the XP-120, but it's half the price and half the size.

But if it has to be one of those three, I'd say go with the XP-120.

the Xp120 will only beat a watercooling system if you use a high powered fan on it and it will not beat the high end watercooling system

Strange, but if it works it works. I have an XP-90 with Ceramique on my 3800 Newcastle and couldn't ask for anything better. I also have the fan at 8 volts. It's quiet and my temps never rise above 43C with CS:S which is all I play right now. It idles at about 30-33. Go for the XP-120 if it fits and you should be in good shape.
