Which cooler for LGA1156/5? OC vs noise dilemma

Hi,

I'm after a new CPU cooler, initially to cool an i5 750, but will probably move to Ivy Bridge at some point. I'm not going for crazy 4.5Ghz+ overclocks on the 750 as I still want to bear in mind my power consumption, so I'm not looking at stuff like the NH-D14, Silver Arrow, or that massive new one with the weird name.

One thing I also want to give big consideration to is noise: I'd like to hear as little as possible from my P182, and everything else in there is pretty much inaudible.

So far I'm looking at:

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus - £22
Gelid Tranquillo - £24
Corsair A70 - £29
Be Quiet! Dark Rock Advanced - £40
Thermalright Venomous X-RT - £41
Thermalright Archon - £43

I've seen people talk about the 212+ being excellent value, but perhaps not what you should get if you want something very quiet. I don't know about the Tranquillo or A70 on that front.

The Dark Rock, X-RT and Archon are all meant to be pretty much silent I think, so on those it'll come down to performance and ease of mounting (the Dark Rock is meant to be a pain to mount, dunno about the Thermalrights).

Anyone have anything to add? All advice appreciated.

Be careful of your vertical clearance - a 160mm tall cooler will be the largest a p182 will hold. The archon will not fit - it is 170mm.

I would suggest a Coolermaster hyper 212 plus - and if your motherboard supports it limit the max speed of the fan to about 60%. It will be very quiet and definately fit. I have two 1200 rpm scythe s-flex fans on my 212 plus in push pull, and it cools a core i7 950 to about 70c in prime at 3.8 ghz, and is quiet.
