Which console system for sports games?

I've been thinking about buying a console system mainly for playing sports games. It just seems that all the football and baseball games for the PC pale in comparision the console versions. So.....which console should I buy? Remember that I am looking at this for the sports games and doubt I ever play much else on it. I've been told by a friend that the XBox version of Madden seems to be better than the PS2. Is this true? I can't imagine how much different it would be from console to console but I guess you never know. By the way....I haven't owned a console game since the original Sega system.......

i think Xbox is best for sports games.

PS2 also has great sports games, but Xbox has out-of-the-box 4 player support.

So i would go for Xbox for sports games.

any of the current consoles wont dissappoint you in terms of sports games as they all offer roughly the same games.

it all comes down to what u want to spend really.

I've noticed on the commericals for NFL2k3 that they're showing Xbox footage, and since it'd make sense that they pick the best looking version to show on the commercials, one can infer that the Xbox version looks the best.

If I was going to play sports games and nothing else, I'd seriously consider the xbox. There's no memory cards to deal with (sports games are notorious about being memory card hogs) and you've got four player support right out of the box.

There's also NFL Fever available for the xbox, which isn't available on any of the other consoles, so that means there's one more football game to try besides Madden, Blitz, and NFL2k3.

Looking at gamespot.com, they gave Madden 2k3 a 9.0 on the ps2 and an 8.6 on the xbox. You have to be a subscriber to view both reviews though. I'm not sure if the xbox version supports online play, which might account for the difference in scores between the ps2 and xbox.

Unless you count Mario Tennis as a sports game. I still have the N64 hooked up just to play that game with my friends

I would go with the x-box, a PS2 would be fine but, the x-box has better graphics.

Just don't get a gamecube nintendo sports games suck

XBOX or Dreamcast.. For gaming Dreamcast kicks PS2 and NGC's butt and is only a few dollars. XBOX if ya wanna spend a little more.

All the major sports titles are coming out for all three consoles, so it really comes down
to personal preference.

Sega had something going with it's <sport> 2kx series. If you wouldn't mind getting a DC I'd suggest that.

Otherwise, get an XBox! You'd be more satisfied with it than a DC anyway

I don't think it really matters what you buy since EA Sports and Sega Sports are the predominant makers of most sports titles (makes sense) for consoles. It does eem however that most sport games are made for Playstation 2 and ported to Xbox, leaving the difference pretty un-noticible. Playstation 2 also offers a larger library of racing games if thats your thing too. A plus side too is that you'll be able to play GTA: Vice City as well as Grand Theft Auto III if you like. I only play Sports, Racing and Fighting games, and have found that Playstation 2 fulfills my needs.

as far as football goes, Microsoft's NFL Fever 2002 was rated #1 above all other football games, so I'd have to say xbox if you are buying for football.

If you plan on playing Madden 2003 online, the PS2 version is the only one that supports online play.

nba inside drive 2002 on the xbox is the best basketball game out there, and not only graphics-wise. game play
is more fluid and intuitive . . . in other words it has a low learning curve

better than any ea or sega basketball game.

You can't go wrong with a Ps2 though. Many MANY great games, and they will continue coming for years to come. Definetely a can't go wrong system.

From what I heard, the Create-A-Player was really weak. I think Create-A-Player and Create-A-Team options are what adds fun to the game.

I'll stick with NBA 2K2 (2K3 soon )

Games have always been rated with respect to other games on that console, rather than conversions of that game on other systems. I remember reading a review of the game "NARCs" back in 1991. A magazine rated the C64 version higher than the Amiga500 version. They ended with a footnote that the Amiga version was still better, but that they had to rate the C64 higher because it was such a huge accomplishment on that console.

The PS2 has lame graphics. Even with the high definition LCD monitors they have it hooked up to in the stores, the games look like cr@p.

I'd go with an X-Box.

true. but you haven't run a fast break until you played this game. the turbo is real. you feel and see the explosion in speed
that shoots your player ahead of the crowd, whereas in 2k2 the play, speed, non-existent turbo (depsite the button) makes
the play stilted, clumsy, almost too real

i love the charge calls especially. with 2k2, charges are rare. when you bump into a player, you seem to temporarily lose
control over your player as you wait for the idiotic animation to finish. xbox inside drive doesn't suffer from this. when you're
running wild, shooting up and down the court, you have to be careful not run down your opponent, otherwise you'll get hit
with a charge.

i think the camera angles are so much cooler too. i tweaked, shifted the camera forever in 2k2, and still could not find that
a comfortable up-close side view.

by the way, can you turn off fatigue in 2k2 ?

Xbox. You've got just about all of the PS2 sports games, plus some that the PS2 doesn't have. It also is more powerful, so it'll give you better graphics on some games. TheCube is a bit weak in that department, simply because it doesn't have all the sports games that the others have.

Where on Earth did you get that? Are you sure you didn't mean Madden or 2k3?

lol....I have Madden 2003 for both Xbox and PS2, both systems hooked up through component outs, and you reek of bias. The Xbox version look slightly better. But then again, I play it on the PS2 since the controller is *so* much better for EA Sports games and it has online play. The Xbox advantage come in terms of loading times and the ability to save at any time during a game (awesome!).

Like most others say, most of the sports games are ported across all three platforms. I'd have to say PS2 in the end since I despise the Xbox controller for sports games.

XBOX, The games that are released on all three systems are usually pretty much the same except they look better and run smoother on the XBOX. Simply because it's a newer and a more powerful machine. If you have broadband you can also buy the XBOX live kit for 50.00 and play online for a year. (It's has a built in ethernet card)
