Which computer to put wireless on?

Okay, I've been building my own custom PC for a while here, and it's almost complete. I have RoadRunner as my cable service (Bright House Networks), and I just did a speed test and while I wasn't quite up to 5 Mbps down (It was more like 4.3 or so), it was still a hell of a lot faster than it used to be. Or at least somewhat faster. Now, I've been downloading from various places just to see what kind of real-world speed I'd be getting, and it's about what I expected. Except, it seems that the computer I'm on right now (P3 450) can't handle the speed, because when I download now you can really hear it churning. I was just wondering if this could actually be a byproduct of the new speeds or is it probably that I just never noticed it before now? Also, if it is because of the computer itself, will it hamper my new computer at all? I just want to make sure I have the best speeds for my rig. I was going to put the router on this PC (since it already has the cable modem here anyway) with a wireless adapter in my new one. Because of what's happening though, I've been debating as to whether I should move the cable modem and router to my room when my computer is up and running. Would it be worth it? Or will the P3 not do anything to slow the speed?
 
Modem --> Router --> New PC (Wireless)
Modem --> Router --> Old PC (Wired)

If that's how it looks, then the old PC won't slow your new one down.
 
wired to new PC to take advantage of the speed..
wireless to you old comp ...

that's how I would do it...

Yeah, that's exactly how I was going to have it.
 
If you have a good signal on even a B router, it can transfer far more than your 5mb RR account can dish out. The Wireless card driver and overhead (WEP) will probably make the slow 450 slower. Id say the 450 wired, and the new PC wireless with 128bit WEP. Just my two cents.
