Which comp to use as a server

tm37

Lifer
I am currently running Clark Connect 1.2 on an HP Comp that had the following Specs.

667 Celeron
256 MB RAM
OnBoard Graphics
80 GB 7200 RPM Drive

I have a computer that was given to me that is
400 PII
No Memory
No HD
3dfx Voodoo Graphix
Abit bh-6 MB
Cheiftec Case
300W PS

I was thinking of moving the CC box to the 400 along with the HD and MEM and Giving the Cely to my sister for email, Word, and such.

She would need to buy a hard drive. I was thinking of putting a second drive in the server and running it in RAID.

Any thoughts?

I am looking at buying either a second 80 or perhaps a 60 and using a RAID setup with the 60 in the wifes comp, putting the 80 in there for her.

I have a Maxtor card that supposedly can be hacked into a raid card. I need to read up on that.

I will setup the HP with a Hard Drive that my sister will buy and put 128MB of Memory I have lying around.

I am also gonna drop in 64 More MB into the server because I have it just sitting here.

I think you may run into problems with the ancient Abit BH6 motherboard and modern drives. You will need a older hard drive to boot an OS then use a controller card for your 80 gig drives. I had a similar setup with the BH6 and was using it as a Server. I ran into a lot of problems when I attempted to use newer high capacity drives and controller cards. I ended up getting a new motherboard.

I would give the P2 400 and BH6 to my sister if she is only emailing and using word.
