which come first?

It depends on how you define the egg, as a general egg, or a chicken egg.
And also, whether what is in the non-chicken egg is a chicken or not, and when you define chickens as being chickens (ie: point of evolution)

It is an unanswerable question to which both answers could be correct.

Christians would say the chicken because the Bible says that animals were created in adulthood.

And we all know what an accurate biology book the bible is.

Egg would have had to have come first.

What laid the egg?

The chicken's mother, which was probably not a chicken as we know them today. The chicken was a mutation better suited for survival. It could have been anything from color to size. As it survived and mated, it's mutation was passed on to some of it's offspring. Those went on the survive and mate, and the mutation was passed along, and so forth.
