Which cologne to wear?

I'm not a big cologne guy, I generally only wear it a few times a month when I'm going out or doing something special. For the past few years it has just been a basic CK One. Today I bought a pack of Ralph Lauren colognes that includes Polo, Polo Black, Polo Explorer, Polo Double Black and Polo Blue. A couple of them are a big strong for me but generally they're pretty nice. So which ones do I wear to which kinds of events? I'm heading to the pub to watch the All Blacks kick the Springboks' asses in rugby tonight, what do I wear to something like that? Formal events? Day time events? Etc.

Also, does anyone wear cologne on a daily basis? Is this a good idea? Seems a little OTT to me.

I wear the Victoria Secret shit because quite a few girls told me that it was one of the best smelling ones they'd seen.

I only have one friend who wears Polo and he wears the "black" variety. The strength will definitely dictate how often you wear it. The VS stuff I wear is light enough that I don't mind wearing it every day because it tends to "fade" in after a couple hours and is more like an...afterthought then a "OMG SMELL ME"

I very much like Armani Code. It's what I use for fomal events. I also have the aftershave balm.

Polo Blue is my daily cologne, what I use for going to work.

I don't use it myself, but Drakkar Noir is another good, classic cologne.

Cologne was invented by the French because they didn't want to bother with baths or showers. Surely Kiwis are better than that? Using cologne suggests that you might have reason to cover up something, something like smelling bad. In this case, fighting fire with fire doesn't work.

As Russell Peters said, some people just "expire" fast than others.

Especially if you don't have the time or luxury to shower during a long shift at work or a long day trip. Or if it's very hot and air conditiioning isn't blasting all the time.

Honestly, if you aren't sitting on your ass all the time at home, and you are in any type of professional environment for extended periods of time, you can see why it helps to at least have some cologne on hand.

Curve for Men...honestly the best cologne Ive ever used...I have yet to not get a compliment while wearing it...everywhere I go every woman I talk to its always "You smell good"...like seriously...I dont know what it is about the stuff, but it works, and works well.

I have Drakkar Noir and a cheap $10 one - TBH I much perfer the cheap $10 one and wear that one almost every time I go out. It doesn't last long though - Drakkar is strong smelling and will last all night, but the cheap one lasts maybe 60-90 minutes.

edit: And TBH I'm unfamiliar with most of the RL Polo range, but the ones I have smelt (maybe blue and "original") were pretty damn nice. TBH I would just wear whatever smells good to you - more "formal" colognes tend to be heavier and stronger smelling (eg my Drakkar), while very casual ones tend to be light and fruity (eg your CK One). Then there's the spectrum in between.

I actually liked the Claiborne colognes. However they are hard to find now, and most are probably expired since the shelf life is 3 years max.

i tried a couple of the Polos last time I went cologne shopping at Macy's - they were very strong and not something I would wear every day. I probably should've brought a girl with me so I could get some opinions, though...
of the few that I've tried, Curve is cheap and smells pretty good. it's pretty popular though, but if you don't mind smelling like someone you might know it shouldn't matter.
the only cologne I own is Armani Diamonds for Men. the reviews weren't that great but I personally like the smell, and have gotten a few compliments on it.

I did find a site called basenotes that had a very good database for a lot of colognes. if you have free time i'd recommend browsing through it.

Actually most of the "Curve" line for men works well with the ladies. And they're CHEAP online (not so much in B&M stores).
