ffdshow looks like an encoder/decoder. I just want the codecs. I don't intend on changing formats etc ...

FFDShow works fine and doesn't take up much space anyways. It's really configurable to allow for other codecs if you run into problems with a specific format.

Also, just to let you know, the CCCP that Kriz linked to seems to use FFDShow with a lot of preconfigured settings and extra filters for things like subtitles and Matroska files.

CCCP/Combined Community Codec Pack. its the least bloated codec pack out there and plays ALL my anime/shows/whatever else perfectly. but i do manually update media player classic though...hehe.

I've always had excellent luck with the Defiler CP with Real/QT Alternatives. I'll be checking out the CCCP, though.

CCCP is just ffdshow with a couple extra filters thrown in (mainly matroska related) with a couple players thrown in.

Real and Quicktime weren't supported by CCCP last time I looked at it so you may need to install the alternatives seperately.

My main thing against codec packs is that most people have a tendency to install all of them, whether they need to or not and it leads to conflicts a lot of times.

btw: COder/DECoder = CODEC

I used the K-lite Codec pack. Also comes now with quicktime mov so I didn't have to reload bloated apple quicktime. so far so good.
