Which class should I choose?

So yeah, I'm playing Oblivion, and this is a specific question so don't page me off to the bazillion Anandtech guides out there. :p

Anyway, I like using swords, axes, and everything but that ugly piece of crap known as the war hammer.

I was wondering, is there any major differences playing as a Knight, a Paladin, or a warrior?
Is there any interesting fact(s) I could know about to help me?

And what if I wanted a sword slinging Breton? Am I just a noob, or do the Bretons actually have a chance slinging swords in ES4.

Thanks.

No real difference at all in the classes. They just predetermine which are your major and minor skills.
I always recommend you make your own, pick the skills you will be using as Major.

The races are basically the same. They just predetermine what your starting stats are, BUT.....
They also each have one or two special abilities and some of them may be more suited to your playing style.

EDIT:
Any race will do just fine as a sword slinger. Just use the sword a lot and its skill will go up.
When you raise a level put points into the physical stats and you will be a warrior.

For my latest character I picked High Elf because of the extra Magicka, and The Apprentice for the same reason.
I am much more suceptable to damage but the outrageous starting MP's make it worthwhile.
You may have noticed Magicka doesnt regen fast and you can only drink so many potions at a time. And when you start to cast the more powerful spells in the game you cant seem to restore mana fast enough.
Better to have a big starting amount.

(Or use mods to make life easier. ;) )

I wish there were some mods to get rid of that stupid glass armament. It looks silly and like total rubbish.

Axes qualify as blunt weapons, go figure.

With the possible exception that skeletons take partial damage from blades, full from blunts, I think the difference is largely image rather than substance.

I would suggest reading a guide, because the system worked weird in Oblivion if you want to max stats

I'm a freak when it comes to maximizing stuff though so you may not care, but the skill system isn't as easy as it seems at a first glance.
You want a skill that uses all different stats as a major, or whatever..
