Which chipset to run with northwoods?

I am going to buy either a C1 1.8A or 2.0A and hope to hit 3 Ghz. Back when I was into northwoods, the 845D & 845G chipset, including the 4G4A and P4B266, were the ones to go for. Now I see most are getting either the PE or the Granite Bays? I am not sure which is right for me, I only have one stick of RAM so Granite bays dual channal would be of no use to me. So the way I see it is PE or 845G chipset. What are the advantages of each? I remember the 845Gs were very overclockable but are they slow and outdated compared to the PE chipset? Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks

I suggest getting an Asus P4PE motherboard using the 845 Intel chipset. My rig runs rock solid becaeing overclocked from 2.0 gig to 2.5 gig.

The PE is the way to go right now. There isn't much reason to go with the 845E/G. The Granite bay chipset is nice, but it's still a little tough to get ahold of. On top of that, the motherboards are super expensive.

Don't discount RDRAM either. PC1066 gives a significant boost over current single-channel DDR chipsets. The memory can overclock reasonably well also.

I have a 2.0GHz CPU running at 3.0GHz default voltage on a PE chipset motherboard from Albatron (I STILL can't remember the name of it).

I dont understand why the PE is better than the 845G. The 845G overclocks better and is cheaper!

Is the PE faster?
