I'm building a new, fast P4, 2.53G PC w/pc2700 ram. I'm either going to go with a Gigabyte 8IEXP (845E) or a Epox 4G4A which has the 845G. Which should I get. I don't play games, but I'll overclock it somewhat and use it for video editing. I don't need onboard graphics or audio. Is the 845G going to net me more speed? Is Epox a good motherboard? Which has better support as far as coming out with new/better bios???

Your suggestions appreciated. Thanks,

Mark G

I dunno. If you read the threads here, at Hard, Overclockers.com and Asusboards.com you'll see more than a few people concerned about overclocked memory performance on the 845G boards. Do a little searching.

EDIT: I'd throw in my vote for the Asus P4B533, or the P4B533-E.

It seems that for a few brands including asus the motherboard with the 845 G chipset comes in a micro atx form only if that matters to you.

I think the 'G' supports DDR333 while the 'E' is limited to only DDR266.

While the Asus P4B533-VM is a mATX board, the Asus P4B533-V is a full ATX board. As is EPoX's 4G4A and 4G4A+, MSI's 845G MAX, Gigabyte's GA-8IG and GA-8IGX, Abit's BG7, Intel's D845GBV, etc.

Basically what I'm saying is that there are just as many (or more) ATX versions as there is mATX.

As for the topic at hand... I own both an EPoX EP-4G4A+ and an Asus P4B533. The P4B533 is lacking a 4:5 memory divider, but the 4G4A+ didn't like my two sticks of (true) Samsung PC2700. I still don't know why.

It's hard to pick a winner, but I'd have to recommend the P4B533 over the 4G4A. The next board I'd like to get my hands on is Asus' i845G board, the P4B533-V.

the 845e doesnt officially support ddr333, but ive never heard it not running it and ive heard success stories of FSB speeds at 180mhz and still climbing (with abit IT7)
