Which cell phone company for San Jose?

I'll be going away to college soon and I wanna to know which company has the best cell phone reception and coverage in San Jose. Also what plan can I get so that I won't get charged long distance for calling San Francisco?

Verizon seemed to work pretty well whenever I went over the hill to San Jose. My friend with Sprint had problems in Sunnyvale... Cingular works except it cuts out right at the intersection of the 17 and the 85... also, I think most plans have the bay area as one area, so no matter what area code (415, 650, 408, etc) you dial, it will still be in your local calling area as long as you are in your home area. I have Verizon's Single Rate West 300 minute plan... no roaming charges in some number of western states and no domestic long distance charges. Hope this helps.

I haven't heard very good things about Cingular. I'm thinking about going with AT&T and getting a Motorola V60. Anyone know of any stores in the bay area offering $30/month plans that have nationwide long distance?

Well I know that cingular sucks for SF but I'm not sure about other parts of the bay area. AT&T is suppose to be good in SF but I dont know how good they are in San Jose.

Verizon has good reception pretty much everywhere in the bay area. It's a little more, and fewer phones to chose from, but great service anywhere in CA. I recomend single rate west, esp if you drive to LA or Reno or Vegas a lot.

are you going to SJ State? anyway, i have AT&T and it works very well in the bay area, i'm always in fremont (right in between SJ and SF) and san jose...no complaints here...

my cousin has verizon and he goes to SJ State. his brother uses it too and it is supposedly the best service you can get in the bay area...

so i don't think you can go wrong with either one. so probably look for the best plan between those two.

my experience with cingular(formerly pacbell).. it sucks donkey balls. sometimes people try calling me and get busies.. its sad.
