Which cell phone carrier should I go with?

I have finally decided to get a cell phone, and since my dad's contract with Cingular expired, he said that we should join together. I live in the Bay Area, CA and was wondering, which cell phone carrier is good for this area? Should we stick with Cingular? I was looking at T-Mobile, and they have some pretty good plans, but Im not too sure about the service. Are they good? I heard Verizon had the best service, but I've only HEARD. Phones are really not an issue, as long as its not ugly. LOL.

Cingular is not such a bad company, but I want opinions from people who have experienced other carriers. Please help me out here,

Thanks.

A poll has been added as well.

Edit: Added Sprint

Cingular! 😀 Rollover minutes...

But. alot of people in Seattle choose T-Mobile (or at least in my area)... For some reason I don't know...

Maybe it was the free cell phones offers we get...
Course I broke my free cell phone... 🙁 (Smashed it against a wall, antenna broke)

Yeah dude, you completely missed sprint, they're really good here in the bay. I have them with a Samsung A800 (2 megapixel slider phone). It's awesome.

cingular CS is the suck, as long as you dont have to deal with them its good though

btw T-mobile has piss poor reception in the bay area, atleast in San Jose

Doh!! I knew I was missing something. Added Sprint as well.
Thanks for the heads up.

i've been with verizon for several years because i actually prefer to have decent service. my parents have cingular, and a few friends use tmobile, and they often have dropped calls due to lack of decent service. i feel sorry for anyone that doesn't use verizon, at least in north alabama.

Oh yeah, I was looking at sprints website, and their deals seem to be expensive. I could only get like 300 minutes for $35, whereas t-mobile offers 1000 for 39.99. However, it may have to do with the coverage also. How is Sprint's coverage and customer service?

It really depends on the area.... T-Mobile coverage is great here, and their cheaper and only have a 1 year contract, screw that 2 year contract crap.

same here

T-mobile rocks, great prices and great customer service. Also they have international plans which was cool because I was able to use my phone in Europe.

Dude, T-Mobile's $40/1000 plan doesn't include night and weekend minutes. READ.

How many minutes do you use each month? When do you call the most?

Nobody can tell you what would be best for you. Find the handset you want, or the number of minutes you want - whichever is more important to you - first, then try that service out. MAKE SURE you go to every area you would like to frequently use your phone at in order to make sure you get coverage. If not, take it back in the trial period (usually 14-15 days).

at this point, the prices are all pretty damn similar.
the points to look for is coverage streangths, and what most your friends have for the moble to mobile minutes. But I'll tell you this. Cingular is a piece of sh!t for charging for sending & receiving texts. its pathetic. but thats what I got. for the next year atleast
