Which CDR?

Good morning fellas

Quick and easy. I need a very good IDE CD burner:

Very Important:
Drive reliability
Reliability of individual burns

Important:
Speed

Not important:
Cost

Cost is far less of an issue than drive performance. We will be using this to make occasional backups (we have a
dedicated tape device for that task) and to make CDs when we need them made (which is often 5 minutes ago.. if you
get my meaning).

What are people's experience with cirtain brands? Can anyone make any recommendations? I've heard good things about
LiteOn drives and personally I have had good experience with Sony drives. Who is the current king of CDRs?

The current king is a Plexlite 40x. Has pretty much all the features you listed.

Don't get a 12x though - it's not as compatible with clonecd.

Migroo, if you want the best reliablity on individual burns, don't expect even a Plextor to give it to you burning it on crappiest, cheapest media from Outpost.com or Walmart. Invest in good media like Fuji or better, Mitsui available from their factory outlet.

We agree here. We mostly use branded Sony, Kodak, TDK etc CD-Rs.

So is Plextor the 'king' of CD-Rs, like IBM was once the king of Hard drives?

plextor definitely owns in tests, but i also have a lite-on and have noticed no difference in real life situations. or maybe i don't burn enough cds to notice?

I'm VERY happy with my Lite-On 24x and I have used many drives. I really don't think you can go wrong with either Plextor or Lite-On to be honest. The Lite-On is cheaper though.

I would seriously look at a Yamaha. They make solid drives and have a better "safe-burn" technology with an 8meg buffer. Plextor is good too, but I like my Yamaha.

I love my 24x TDK VeloCD. It probably isn't the fastest thing in the world, but it has a translucent blue tray and I'm easily impressed.
