I just got a Lite On ldw411s 4x DVD +/- burner for sale on 'black friday.' My computer only fits two internal cd drives so i gotta get rid of something. My other two drives are:

Lite On 16x DVD-ROM
Lite-On 48x24x48 CDRW

The DVD burner also functions as a 40x24x40 CDRW so I was thinking of getting rid of the 48x burner...Anyone go through this switch recently? What did you keep? How well would I be able to burn 2 cd's at once (if i keep the burner)? How well does DVD copying on the fly work (if i keep the DVDROM)?

the cd writing capabilities is a bit slow on the dvd burner so i would keep the cdrw and get rid of the dvd (since the dvd burner will play dvds just as good as the dvd-rom)

Make sure both recorders can use the same software. I tried once to have 2 cdrw drives, it didn't work out, only one would record, other one was just a reader.

Get rid of the CDRW. You have plenty fast CD burning with the DVD-R drive. 40 Vs 48X is nothing. The Liteon DVD drive has very good DAE speed if you do any MP3 conversion. Having a DVD drive may be handy if you do any DVD to DVD backups.

I do want to do DVD backups. Is it any more convenient to have two dvd readers? Does on the fly DVD copying work well for commercial DVD's?

anytime the drive is accessing something it's putting "wear" on it.

i specifically bought a DVD / CDRW liteon combo drive for ripping.
