ok, im buying a card TONIGHT....referr to my earlier post Here and I need to know which card should is going to be my best bet since, and correct me if im wrong, but do I need SM3.0 for HDR? If so wont I need one of the Geforce cards? Anyway ill also be adding a 2405 monitor later...but for now its all just about the cards...which should I get...

the X850XT
7600GT or
6800GT

Ill be adding a 2405 later on, but for now its just a 19" These are my choices.... I only have $200 for the card... what do you think?

This will be on top of:

Athlon 3200+
Abit KN8 SLI
Corsair 3200 1 GIG DDR (from current system)

might add another gig of ram.....what do you think?

7600gt has more features than the others it mite be faster in most cases-low power-low temp.

Hmm..three in a row, well I was looking at the eVGA from Newegg for $174 after rebate... fits nicely under my $200 budget... man ive been an ATI guy all my life.. how will I handle switching over? Ill loose those ATI demos/screensavers etc..

Anyway, about my first question though... can I support HDR now? Would I have been able to with the X850xt? Regardless if I could actually "run" it or not, I want to be able to support it at this point.. and what is the deal with eVGA. People are saying go with that brand...

So..bottom line.. 7600GT better then the X850XT?

I was in the same situation last week and picked the $155 sapphire X850XT and do not regret it, using a 2005FPW instead of the 2405 though. This thing is a beast when it comes to overclocking and has alot more memory bandwidth which will be important at such a high resolution. You only need SM3.0 for certain types of HDR, but of course Oblivion uses the type that requires SM3.0, so you'd be stuck with bloom unless they come out with a patch or something. Try going here and putting 580 core 600 memory on the overclock tab of the X850XT to see raw numbers to compare, mine overclocks to 610 core 625 memory with stock cooling but its quite loud at the fan speed those speeds require. Good luck with what you pick :)

some numbers on my 2.5ghz sempron64 1gb@183mhz 2,2,2,6 1T and x850xt:

24817 3dmark01se
6931 3dmark05
most importantly, WoW@1680x1050 6xAA 16xAF everything maxed 31MB worth of addons 51 FPS average (in org no less :D)

1)Yes with the HDR.
2)I wouldnt know cuz frankly I've been a nvidia guy my whole life...but i'm guessing yes.
3)Evga has a great warranty and customor service plus they have the whole step up plan when you want to get the newer card.

u can tweak bloom so it almost looks like hdr, it just won't be dynamic. personally i have an x800gto2 and it runs great. one good thing for oblivion is there's a bug that has 6xaa running at the speed of 2xaa and looks ALOT better!

Dude its your choice man:)...if you want to go ATI thats fine...but 7600GT from a financial standpoint is better...NVIDIA consumes less energy which inturns create less heat, drivers are laid out alot easier than ATI also...

though the X850 is still pretty good, i would get the 7600GT hands down. i'd rather have newer technology and a single slot solution and MUCH better drivers (from experience).

yes, the 7600GT will run HDR, bloom and all those snazzy effects. and its a decent overclocker and you can voltmod it for insane clocks!

Yeah I know, its just frustrating :) I would like a card that has true HDR since ATI does not mention it on their site for the 850xt and I know how invaluable SM3 is right now but for oblivion it might be nice to just "see" it. Then again to OC the 850 up to PE speeds which is something I wasnt going to do anyway though...geez, this shouldnt be this hard :)

Ok, given all you know here it is: I dont plan on OC'ing, but im not saying I wouldnt want to, I will be using a 2405 soon even though I know the card isnt the greatest for it, ive been an ATI guy all my life but im willing to change, I really like the demos that ATI puts out for their cards, but demos are just demos, who cares and I like the idea of a card running quiet. OK...given that what do you think...850XT or 7600GT?

I await your opinion :)
