In fact, if your Ti200 will cost around $100 or so, you can get a Radeon 8500LE 64mb from Newegg for around the same cost. Those perform a lot better.

Agreed. The R8500LE can be beat only by the $60 more expensive GF4 TI 4200.

The only problem with buying a Radeon is that you are required to install ATI drivers in order to use it.

Visiontek is pretty good. MaxPC liked one or two of their cards, and a few overclockers around the board have 'em

I have an MSI GF3 Ti200. It performs very well, but my only gripe about it is how much you can overclock it. Aside from that, it's a great card.

BTW: I have the 128 MB model. Get the 128 MB model if you can because it'll give you the best bang for the buck.

And what's wrong with ati drivers?
Back in 1998, STB went to war against ATI to see who could write the worst video drivers.

When 3dfx bought STB, ATI was declared the winner by default.

ATI is constantly dinged by the community, and pointed out in print by MaxPC, as not being able to optimize their drivers properly (recently pulling an "Apple", in case you forgot), and are also guilty of repeatedly abandoning their chipsets before the full potential can be realized thru drivers before they move on to their next chipset...something nVidia doesn't do.

But regardless, this dude is looking at nVidia, not ATI. To each his own, but if he's looking at something specific, let's give him some credit that he may have already done some research in order to narrow it down to two specific cards.

Me thinks Cholley needs an attitude adjustment.

And I did read your post, but with your attitude I won't give you an answer.

Cholley just get what ever one is cheap, but the MSI one will come with more features and maybe some software as the visontek one comes with no extras or software

Actually, the "Apple" incident occured with Radeon, and it happened just a few months ago. It was widely regarded as "false advertising". And MaxPC cut them down for their poor OpenGL drivers as well.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

If I live in the past, so be it. Every time I'm tempted for an ATI card, I find something sordid underneath later.

I dont own a mac & I never will so I dont care about that.

Have you ever personaly used a Radeon card or are you just saying what you read about on some page?

I was just speaking from the experience i had with my radeons & I never has issues,I had a RadeonLE a Radeon 32DDR, and now I have a 8500LE and that card's running fine too.
