Both cameras look hella cool.

I'm leaning toward the S300 because it's the size of a freakin playing card. Sweeeeeet...

The S30 has more megapixels (3.2 as opposed to the elph's 2.1), but I think 2.1 is enough for my purposes.

I basically want a point and shoot, portable, nice picture-taking digicam

Anyone have experiences with either?

I can't really comment on the s30, but I have the A20 which is the same as the s300 without the movie option. It takes awesome pics and I haven't had a problem yet. My dad needed a new camera and I talked him into buying the s300 and he loves it.

The only reason I got the a20 instead of the s300 is because the a20 uses AA batteries so I can stop at any gas station/convenience store if the batteries poop out on me.

the A20 is definitely not the same as the S300, at least as far as looks go.

The A20 is no where near as small and stylish as the S300 Elph, although the AA battery thing is pretty convenient.

Get the S30 it has more features. It is more adjustable and it takes pictures much faster than an S300. WIth the S300, you are really just buying it for its form factor. If that is what is important to you then buy it if not, the S30 is better.

How much faster is the S30? If there's a big difference, than that could be an issue.

Also, how much bigger is the S30? I really hate carrying extra things around with me, so I'd like a digicam to fit into my pocket (hence why i'm leaning toward the Elph)

Besides the faster picture taking, all the other options on the S30 aren't enough to give up the Elph's size.

S300, I would go for the smaller one, you will carry it more often everywhere.
I have an A20, I wish I had the S300. Bottom line, I post pictures online, and
typically use the 640 resolution for quick downloads for relatives/friends who
are still on < 56K dialup.

You will forget the resolution quickly in favor of convenience, unless you are
an excessive geek!

Hey, Kyguy, how much does the S300 cost these days ? Thanks!!

I realize they're two different sizes. I was referring to the "guts" of the camera. Other than the movie function on the s300 and the battery difference, they are identical.

You can get an S300 for $378.
I'm sure ATOT people could probably find a better price, but this is what I came up with doing a quick search with pricegrabber.com

Why does neither camera capture pics @ a 800x600 resolution? It skips from 640x480 to 1024x768. I'd like the 800x600, since this is roughly a good size on a monitor.

I've got an S40 and had an S100. The S40 is much bigger there is no doubt about it. But the shutter is so fast. Look at some of the reviews on dpreview.com

I can continuously press the shutter (think automatic handgun) and the picture will take with flash. I could never do that with other cameras. The cycle times were just too long. Usually a second or two. This one is instantaneous.

I miss the size of my old camera but I've taken alot better pictures with my new camera.

I spent $600 total, but that includes another battery, a case, a 128mb "high speed :disgust:" CF card, and a 5yr warranty. I got it from buydig.

I like the S30. It's nearly as small as the S300, but has ALL the features of the G2. AND it accepts my IBM Microdrives.

I have a S30 and I definitely recommend it. It is a bit bigger than the s300 or s110 but IMO, it is worth it.

Bump for this morning peoples' opinions

Is the S30 really that much faster than the S300? That's a major point for me to consider.

Yep. Read the specs and reviews of the G2. The S30 and S40 have the same features of a G2, but in a much smaller package.
