Which came first the chicken or the egg?

That google thing is in almost every Anandtech chicken vs egg thread. Of course so is my response:

Commonly beleived possibilities:
1) Evolution. A similar species layed a mutant egg which, when born, was a chicken.
2) God. God created an egg which, when born, was a chicken.
3) God. God created a chicken which later laid eggs.
The bible doesn't specify if #2 or #3 occured. Thus both have to be included.

Since I want to keep this a religion neutral thread, we'll give each option an equal chance of occuring. Therefore, it is a 66.6% chance of an egg that came first.

Or I could add in a new one that I like: The chicken came first - eggs don't have sex organs.

How about theory #4: Evolution: Chickens have been giving birth to progressively premature young in progressively tougher membranes to protect them from the elements or what-not. Over time the chickens with tougher membranes surived and eventually became a hard eggshell. So Chicken came first.

Eggs have been standard fare for non-mamals for a long time. I think nature is/was evolving away from the egg.
