A buddy of mine is looking to replace the "rent-a-modem" he is currently using, would this be a good choice? Is there another he should look at? Linksys?

The question is on 500 KBs is one brand like motorola or linksys going to matter? It's not wireless either.

I have the motorola, I wouldn't even consider getting anything else....unless a very very large sum of money was involved.
