From what I hear both are pretty compatible, so it might not make much of a difference which you choose. I personally would pick a -R/RW of the +R/RW because -R/RW looks normal and + doesn't. Kinda dumb but you could just get one of those Sony drives that does both.
DVD-R is best for movies. THe data is cheaper ($.85 per disc). Sony is Ok but for $300. I just picked up the Pioneer 4X burner for $150. So its either the Sony or the Pioneer and about 100 movies for $300.
