Which brands are good for room air conditioners?

I'm going to need another air conditioner when I move. I only need about 8000 btu's and I want one I can mount directly in the window, and not the type where you put the casement in first, then slide in the a.c.
I guess the manufacturers must change their models every year so most of the ones I have found online don't have any reviews yet.
I want something that is going to be relatively quiet.
What are the best brands?

Gee, for some reason I didn't think of Panasonic. I love their telephones.

I have a Panasonic, too. I used to have an old Kenmore or something with a broken thermostat. Not only did it suck electricity, it would begin forming solid sheets of ice on the fins. It was truly amazing that it worked for so long.

The Panasonic is much nicer, though.
