Any of the majors: Amoco, Exxon, Mobil, Shell, Chevron, Sunoco. I generally avoid the no-name brands like Quik-Fill and Coastal.

It's all the same gas. There was a show in History channel about it. Basically all refineries pool their gas in one pipeline, and then on the other end they take it out according to what theyput in and take it to the gas station. They add individual additives, but most of the addatives are very similar to each other.

Sunoco. BP and Exon make my cars run like ass and get bad milage.

EDIT: I use shell just as much, if not more, this summer tho, sunoco wasa bit cheaper and runs just as well

Ditto, but currently using Diamond Shamrock(sp?) since they are 8-10 cents cheaper than my Exxon near home.

... or a diesel where higher cetane value = no smoke. ;)

You can add cetane additives ya know. I think I saw a 96 ounce container for like $13 USD.

Very true... I use Powerservice myself. It has a cetane booster and some lubricants to keep your injectors nice and healthy. It's reasonably cheap as truckers use it, and you can get it at Walmart. :D

*edit* also, the difference between premium diesel and normal diesel is very small (2 cents/L)... they don't bend you over the barrel like they do with higher octane gas.

Diesel is definitely Ferengi approved. :p

My sentiments exactly. IIRC, the 96 ounces treats up to 300 gallons. Thats not bad. I was reading on some other forums that during wintertime that diesel formulations change (I think they mix #1 Diesel with #2) and power suffers, however the fuel dosent gel or freeze up as badly so an additive is needed.

IIRC, the U.S. has no laws regarding "preimum" diesel fuel. It can be the primoridial ooze that it is and still be sold as premium I read somewhere.

I usually fill up at Amoco, Mobil or Shell just because they're nearby. And I use whichever is cheapest, it's all the same to me.

I don't give much of a damn about brand. I always get the cheapest. For me it's race trac. Their stuff is consistently around $.5-.10 cheaper than other brands and I'm sure I'm getting the same stuff; you're just throwing money away otherwise.

I love that commercial by one of the gas brands. it goes something like this: "If you have a problem related to using our brand of gas bring us the receipt and mechanic bill and we'll refund you the bill." What a silly load of BS. It would be damn near impossible to prove a problem was related to using their gas unless their definition is so broad that you can say "My engine overheated and if not for your gas I'd not have been able to drive the damn thing so I blame it on you.". Well I guess some people fall for it

It is illegal to use #2 Diesel on the highway. For off-road use only. It will make your engine smoke, however.

I had a customer once with a large F-Series dump truck, who was complaining about excessive smoke on cold start. He left it overnight, and sure enough, it fogged up the whole parking lot. The first thing we asked him was if he was using the off road diesel in it....he said no. So we checked it out, nothing wrong. Sent a fuel sample out, and sure enough, it was off road diesel. Was okay when the truck was warm, but on cold starts it was terrible.

I religiously use Unocal 76. According to one of the guys at work (whose wife is a bigwig at the El Segundo Chevron refinery) it is the best gas on the market.

Shell of Gulf are my favorites, Sunoco used to be good until BP bought them out. I wouldn't put BP gas in my car if it were the only gas within 100 miles.

ZV

EDIT:
Sunoco. BP and Exon make my cars run like ass and get bad milage.
Sunoco and BP are the same now. BP bought out Sunoco in either the late 1980's or the early 1990's.

EDIT again: Or maybe BP just bought the local refinery back in Ohio from Sunoco. I'll check with a friend whose father is VP of a group that owns 5-6 Sunoco stations.

EDIT the last: OK, now that I've checked my facts, it seems that I had Sunoco confused with Sohio (I tend to do that). Sunoco is still its own company, BP bought out Sohio several years back. Sorry for any confusion. Also, Bonus Points to anyone here who actually remembers Sohio gas stations.

OMG, I'm such a nerd; I saw this thread title and thought, "Well...isn't KWC one of the main manufacturers?"

I use Shell since they are pretty close by and I have had problems with BP gas with my car for some strange reason.

I just go to the local gas stations usually that aren't a chain name. Pretty soon I will go to Walmart when it opens in a few days because then I can just fill up right after work and get a discount to boot!
