The brand does not matter. All G4's preform pretty much the same. Just find a card withthe options(ie video in/out etc) on it you want and buy it.

I thought brand matters with the 2d quality since nvidia has no control over filtering. Also I thought some brand runs hotter thus not much room for overclocking? Any thoughts?

I suggest the Triplex Millenium Silver 64MB Ti4200 because I like the fact that it has 3.3ns ram and none of the others do. Hard to find, but well worth the effort.

From al the reviews I have read(ie Anandtech, Tomshardware) have said all the G4's are pretty much the same. Now in the overclocking dept I would go with the Golden sample cards. Granted they are a bit more but they do overclock nicely. As far as temps. I don't really worry about it since I have a exhaust pci fan card so my case temp is very stable.

The 64MB Ti4200 cards have 3.5ns-4ns ram (I've seen 3.5, 3.6, 3.8 and 4) and, as far as I know, Triplex is the only 3.3ns card. The 128MB cards all have 4ns ram.

Would I get?

The ATI Radeon 9700 Pro . . . it will spank the GeForce 4 cards . . . it is due in only a couple of weeks.

But, IF I was buying a GeForce (I'd still wait for the new Radeons and an inevitable Nvidia price drop), I get the Gainward since I like o/c'ing.
