Get the Braun 2050.
I have had one for 10 years or so.
It is just as good as the $400 one, and you would have to break and replace it 8 times before you started saving money.
 
My parents just got an Oster Fusion. It's pretty nice - glass bowl, fairly powerful. Pretty dang noisy on full speed. Does decent with nearly everything, not 100% perfect with ice though (I like virgin margaritas and icy drinks). I'll compare it to my Blendtec when it shows up 😀
